Should Bagpipes be Prohibited? You be the boss!

You be the Boss!

The bagpipes have been around for a long time. First used by the Roman Emperor Nero in the second century, bagpipes were described by Dio Chrysostom as a pipe that could be played "with your mouth as well as your armpit". Everyone knows that Nero didn't always have the most wonderful intentions in mind. Could Nero have used the bagpipes as a torture device? Bagpipes can be traced further in time to the 13th century, when musicians already had created a few different variations of the bagpipes. In one particular legend, a Knight of the Round Table who cowardly ran from a dragon was punished for the rest of his life, roaming as a traveling musician who was only allowed to play the bagpipes. Later on in history, the Scottish army used "large numbers of pipers trained for military service in the two World Wars". It is obvious the Scottish used these people and their lethal equipment as a sort of "commando", incapacitating hundreds at a time. Today, reports of bagpipe songs used in Guantanamo Bay flood the news.

“I understand the inventor of the bagpipes was inspired when he saw a man carrying an indignant, asthmatic pig under his arm. Unfortunately, the man-made sound never equaled the purity of the sound achieved by the pig.” -Alfred Hitchcock

  1. I'm sorry I had to vote to not outlaw bagpipes, but bagpipes have their place

  2. Bagpipes are awesome! They managed to end the potato famine and contributed to the production of Irish-raised sonics experts like Banshee and Siryn.
