Duckman: A History
Long before the Duckman Website was created, the original Duckman came into existence.
Sometime in the year 2009, Duckman was born. We mustn't tell you the intricate details, for those must be kept a secret.
However, even before his birth, Duckman made an appearance. In a story I wrote for fun, back in 8th grade, I happened to mention a character with the name duckman. Here is the excerpt from the story:
"Then he threw it at the police officers, but it hit a duck which called on duck man, who was killed by samus."
It was not until late 2010 that a blog entitled 'Duckman Connections' was created. We decided to create it, in light of some friends who were also making a blog when they went off to college.
The first two stories of the blog were true stories, although the second was a bit exaggerated. We planned on having stories about our lives for each post, but that didn't turn out so well.
Our everyday lives didn't have many great stories to tell, so we resorted to writing fictional pieces. For a while we posted every day.
After only a few mere months of posting everyday, we tired, and started to lack. We became too busy to write, and our minds were running out of ideas.
After about two weeks of not writing, we started up again. The first post back from the drought was entitled 'Just a simple post' which told about how I had eaten cheese that day.
From mid-November until March 21, we would post something every so often. It started as twice a week, which turned into once every other week. The posting ended on a high note, with about a post for 12 days in a row.
Then it ended.
For over two months, no one wrote a single post. We had almost forgotten about it. We just didn't feel the need to write anything. That is, until May 25.
Earlier that day, I started talking about Black Beard and how his boss was Rainbow Beard. It was only a simple conversation and I never thought it would lead to anything.
That night, I was searching the interwebs. I decided to check out Duckman Connections which hadn't been updated for a while. I wanted to see if we were still getting any visitors, despite the lack of entertainment.
To my surprise, we had still been getting about 300-400 views per month. I then proceeded to click the 'New Post' button.
I sat in my chair staring at the computer screen for a while, thinking to myself if I should write a post again. Then it dawned on me.
I knew of the perfect idea to write about; the conversation I had had earlier that day about Rainbow Beard. I wrote the whole thing out and posted it.
The next day, we wrote a post about quotes, and turned Duckman Connections into a research tool.
One thing led to another, and Duckman Connections was shoved into the deep crevasses of our minds, only to be but a faint memory of our past life. It is here that the blog sat for years. Every once in a great while something would be posted.
On December 4, 2014, one member posted an old High School English paper on the blog, simply because the post had been written, but nobody clicked the publish link.
Many of the members reminisce what the blog once was and remember all the good times they had with it. They still get a good chuckle from it, but are always too lazy to post another entry.
The blog is slowly dying away. New posts rarely arise, and the viewership has gone from 1000s to 10s. All seems hopeless. But, could there be a revival?
Most likely not. But we can hope.
Checking in on December 21, 2015. Two of the duckman crew sat on a couch in a basement with plans to write a couple new posts. What will come of this? (Hint: nothing)
